Gunmen Launch Attack On EFCC Offices In Nigeria

It is reported by The BBC that an unnamed source at the agency told its correspondent that the gunmen who launched the attacked shot sporadically at the empty offices. This is because the attack took place early in the morning before workers resumed their duties for the day. The source added that the gunmen left a letter that is addressed to one of the officials of the anti corruption agency stating that they would kill him.

Although the gunmen did not specifically state the reason behind the threat, the agency has reasons to believe that the attack could have something to do with some cases it is currently prosecuting in court. Meanwhile, The BBC added that a spokesperson for the Commissioner of Police, Wilson Uwujaren stated that no arrests have been made as at the time the information was obtained.

Furthermore, this is not the first time an incident like this has happened as a senior executive officer of the agency was also shot at in June. The attack occurred in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State in the southern part of Nigeria, but the official survived. It is no news that the agency has been actively involved the current administration’s fight against corruption.

According to reports, it has recovered lots of illegally obtained money from popular individuals in Nigeria. The agency recovered $43m in a flat in Lagos during one of its operations back in April.
