New reports reveal that AMD and Square Enix are giving indie games along with new GPUs. According to reports, the tech companies are giving out indie games with new GPUs. This is an interesting update for gamers as they will have free games to enjoy with the new graphics card.
It is reported by Engadget that the motive behind the giveaway is primarily because AMD wants to make sure that owners of the new graphics card have something unique to play with. Meanwhile, the report also stated that the new AMD4U program from the tech company is in collaboration with publisher Square Enix.
According to other reports, the AMD4U program exclusively features games from the publisher’s collective initiative for indie developers. Fans who purchase and register their GPU will be eligible for up to three free PDF games. It is reported that the free games will include Black the Fall and Tokyo Dark (above).
Furthermore, reports have it that the benefits of the AMD4U program are two-fold for gamers. This is because while players will be entitled to free and unique games to enjoy with their graphics card, smaller developers will also be able to get their wares to reach a whole new audience.
Although indie games do not necessarily tend to put graphics cards to the test the same way typical pack-in games do, they offer exclusive experiences that users will not find with the typical high-budget AAA fare. There are not yet many details about the AMD4U program but fans should stay tuned for more updates.

New updates reveal that Disney is about to pull all its movies from Netflix. According to reports, Disney has announced that it is pulling its movies from Netflix. It is reported that this is primarily because Disney is planning on launching its own streaming service very soon.
According to a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter, the withdrawal announcement from Disney was accompanied by the release of a mixed quarterly earnings report. The update also noted that quarterly earnings report revealed a 4 percent sunken stock in after-hours trading. It is believed that the recent announcement partly has something to do with the earnings report.
However, on Tuesday, Disney made an announcement stating that it has decided to pull out its movies from Netflix. The announcement also clearly stated that Disney will be launching its own streaming service very soon. According to a report from Macrumors, Disney’s streaming service is not expected to launch until 2019 but the company stated that it is already preparing to launch an ESPN streaming service at the beginning of 2018.
The report also states that in other to achieve its objectives, the company plans to acquire a majority of BAMTech, the internet company owned by Major League Baseball, the streaming technology company owned by MLBAM. Although Disney already has a stake in BAMTech, the company reported intends to throw in $1.58 billion for an additional 42 percent.
The recent announcement which is expected to take effect in 2019 came as a surprise to many investors. It is reported that Netflix shares sunk about 4 percent on the news in after-hours trading. Disney CEO, Bob Iger believes that the withdrawal is “a strategic shift in the way we distribute our content.” Meanwhile, Disney executives revealed on Tuesday that a multi-year deal putting Mulan, Pocahontas and many others on Hulu will be completely unaffected by the upcoming streaming service.
The CEO added that Disney is yet to engage in any discussion with regards to the new ESPN service with the network’s TV distributors. Disney Tuesday’s announcement was accompanied by its quarterly earnings report. It is reported that while the shares of the company sunk 3 percent in after-hours trading after the conglomerate announced a quarterly revenue of $14.2 billion, it reported a profit of $1.58 per share, which is said to be three cents beyond expectation.
A recent study conducted by researchers at the National Institute of Public Health of the University of Southern Denmark on the relationship between alcohol consumption and diabetes have found that frequent alcohol consumption is associated with a reduced risk of having diabetes. According to reports, the authors of the new study found that persons who consume alcohol at least 3 to 4 times a week are less likely to have diabetes.
It is reported by Science Daily that previous studies conducted on the topic found that moderate alcohol consumption is associated with a lower risk of diabetes. This is said to be in comparison to individuals who do not drink at all. However, previous findings have shown that heavy alcohol consumption is associated with a risk that is equal or even higher than that of abstainers.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the findings of previous studies, which only considered numbers of drinking days per week instead of the volume consumed in relation to diabetes are inconsistent. In addition, the report states that the findings of previous studies on the effects of certain types of beverage are also inconclusive. But the new study conducted by Professor Janne Tolstrup and her colleagues investigated the effects of drinking volumes on the risk of diabetes.
The researchers obtained the data used to conduct the study from DAHNES (the Danish Health Examination Survey) from 2007 to 2008. The data comprise of the self-reports of Danish citizens who are between the age of 18 and over on health and lifestyle. According to Medical Express, those who have been diagnosed with diabetes, pregnant women, recently given birth were excluded from the study. It is believed that these conditions could prevent such individuals from drinking.
The study involved 70,551 DAHNES participants who reported on their alcohol consumption as well as follow up information collected until 2012 with a median follow up of 4.9 years. The researchers distinguished between abstainers for a lifetime, and current abstinence so as to avoid bias in the findings as current abstinence could be as a result of rising medical conditions. The questionnaire also distinguished between the participant’s alcohol consumption frequencies: 1 day per week; 1-2 days per week; 3-4 days per week and 5-7 days per week.
The researchers further adjusted the data based on sex, age, the level of education, smoking status, body mass index, diet leisure time activity, family history of diabetes, as well as current or previous hypertension. The researchers found that 859 men and 887 women developed diabetes during the follow-up study. They also found that individuals who consumed alcohol moderately had the lowest risk of developing diabetes.
They also found that men who consumed 14 drinks per week have a 43% lower risk of diabetes compared to those who do not consume alcohol while women who consumed 9 drinks per week had a 58% lower risk compared to women who abstain from drinking. However, the authors found that those who consumed alcohol 3 to 4 days a week have a 27% lower risk of diabetes for men and a 32% in women compared to those who drink 1 day per week or less.
Meanwhile, the study authors found no relationship between binge drinking and the risk of diabetes. They believe that these may be due to the low statistical power, as only a few participants reported binge drinking. The researchers published their findings in Diabetologia – the journal of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes.
New reports state that Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D will world premiere at Film Festival 2017 which is scheduled to hold at Venice. According to reports, the Thriller 3D of the late singer/songwriter is expected to world premiere at this year’s Venice Film Festival. This is an interesting update as fans have waited for the highly anticipated that 3D version of the short film, Thriller.
There have been lots of rumors about Thriller and it is now scheduled to make a world premiere during the film festival. It is reported by Billboard that Michael Jackson’s estate announced on August 7, that the Thriller 3D of the late musician will make a global debut at the 74th annual Film Festival scheduled to hold from August 30 to September 9, 2017, in Venice.
The report also noted that director John Landis, when commenting on the visuals of the Thriller 3D teased that fans will also receive a shocking surprise. Furthermore, the estate of the late singer also stated that the “Making” of Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D will also be screened during the film festival.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the accompanying “Making” of the upcoming Thriller 3D was initially available on VHS between 1983 and 1990. However, it has not been available for purchase in any form ever since. The report also stated that based on the recent update, this would be the first time the documentary will be shown in a theater.
It is reported that Thriller is the only music video to be accepted by the Library of Congress into the National Film Registry. It has a 14-minute running time and reportedly features film aesthetics. Thriller was directed by John Landis who was also co-writer of the script along with Michael Jackson.
“All of the copies of Thriller out there now are duped, and it used to drive me crazy. I’d been trying to get to the negative for a long time as the new digital technologies are amazing at restoring films. And Michael and I always intended for people to see Thriller in a movie theater. But we didn’t just restore Thriller. We enhanced it … like in that scene in the Wizard of Oz when Dorothy and the others are being buffed and polished inside Emerald City,” Landis says. There are no many details about the Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D but fans will likely get to know more in the coming weeks.
Latest updates reveal that the remains of a victim of the 9/11 attack have been identified. According to reports, the remains of a 9/11 victim has been identified after 16 years of the terror attack. This is the first identification since the last one in March 2015. The airliner attacks popularly referred to as the 9/11 killed a sum total of almost 3,000 people at the Pentagon in New York, and near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
According to a recent report by The Guardian, this achievement has been made possible by a more sensitive DNA technology that is used to tests bone fragments. Now, after two years the new technology has made it possible to make another identification. It is reported that a statement from the New York City medical examiner’s office stated that based on a request made by the family of the identified victim, his name was withheld.
As already stated above, the recent identification is the first since March 2015 and the process is still ongoing. It is reported by USNews that the medical examiner’s office utilizes both DNA testing and several other means to match bone fragments to the 2,753 people who lost their lives by the acts of hijackers who crashed airplanes into the twin towers on September 11, 2001.
The report also states that the remains of up to 40% of individuals who lost their lives in the attack are still unidentified, as only the remains of 1,641 persons have been identified so far. The new DNA technology used to test bone fragments was reportedly deployed earlier this year. It has made the new identification possible, after several initial testing yielded no result, according to the examiner’s office on Monday.
It is reported that with the advancement of DNA testing technology, staff’s at the medical examiner’s office have not relented in their attempt to link more than 21,900 pieces of remains to victims. Although the body of some victims was recovered full after the incident, the effects of bacteria, heat, and chemicals after the towers were burnt down has made it impossible to identify the remains.
Other reports state that the process of identification at the medical examiner’s office came to involve pulverizing the bone fragments to extract DNA and comparing it to a collection of genetic material obtained from victims and their relatives. However, it is reported that most of the DNA profiles generated belong to victims that have already been identified. In other circumstances, the scientists will have to return to the same bone fragment severally to check if a new technology will provide answers.
A new study by a team of researchers at the University of South Australia finds that babies born to mothers who are overweight, obese or diabetic during pregnancy have an increased risk of lungs problems. According to reports, the researchers who conducted the new study found that babies who are born to mothers that are suffered from the mentioned health conditions during pregnancy will likely have lung problems.
According to a recent report by Science Daily, previous studies conducted on the topic found that women who are overweight, diabetic, or obese during the course of pregnancy have an increased risk of giving birth to babies that are likely to suffer lung problems both at birth and in the future (during infancy and childhood).
The report also states that the researchers found that this is mostly because babies born to women who experience these conditions during pregnancy have a high risk of being born with immature lungs compared to babies born to women who have normal weight. It is reported by Eurekalert that the lungs are known to produce a substance commonly referred to as a surfactant.
This substance serves two major purposes which are fighting bacteria and viruses and preventing the airway surfaces in the lungs from sticking together. The researchers noted that Immature lungs lack the capabilities to produce surfactant in the required quantity, thus inhibits the ability of the lungs to perform their normal functions.
While conducting the study, the researchers divided pregnant sheep into two distinct groups. While the first sheep group was fed a normal diet, the second group was fed with 55 percent more energy thus simulating an over-nutrition and obesity model. It is reported that the researchers fed the sheep groups with this diet in the third trimester when the most crucial stage of lung development occurs.
Furthermore, the study authors checked and tracked the development of the lungs of the lambs before birth and a month after they are born to investigate whether they were a sufficient number of cells that produce surfactant. Interestingly, they found that lambs born to mothers that were fed with the over-nutrition model had less surfactant and fewer cells producing it.
However, the study authors found that the amount of surfactant had normalized one month after birth in the offspring born to mothers fed with the over-nutrition model, thereby making the long-term effect of being overweight, obese, or diabetic on lung maturation during pregnancy unclear.
“These findings suggest it may be advisable for overweight, obese and diabetic pregnant women to be provided with treatments to help mature their babies’ lungs before they give birth. It may also be advisable for care providers to counsel overweight, obese and diabetic women to manage these states before becoming pregnant to improve the health of their unborn baby,” senior author of the study, Professor Morrison said. The researchers plan to follow up with the offspring later in their life to check if there is a higher risk of lung problems. They published their findings in The Journal of Physiology.
New reports suggest that Taylor Swift will likely testify in the upcoming groping case. According to reports, the “Shake It Off” singer will testify in the groping case which is expected to last about two weeks. It is also reported that opening statements could commence on Tuesday.
Swift has managed to stay out of the media for about six months now but it seems fans will be seeing more of the singer this week as she is about to take on David Mueller. It is reported by People via Yahoo that the Grammy winner will be testifying against Mueller, a radio talk show host who allegedly groped the singer during a pre-concert meet-and-greet. The incident took place when Swift, who is now 27 was just 23 years old.
However, Mueller sued Swift two years after the alleged incident claiming damages for being accused falsely. He filed a lawsuit against the singer in September 2015, claiming that he lost his job after Swift’s security team falsely accused him of groping her at the Pepsi Center on June 2, 2013. He argued that Swift should have gone to the police instead of informing his bosses, who did not hesitate to fire Mueller. In addition, he also alleged that his colleague, Eddie Haskell, also assaulted swift sexually. He requested the court to grant him $3 million in damages.
It is reported by the Hollywood reporter that Swift countersued Mueller a month later claiming redress for sexual assault. The countersuit stated that “Ms. Swift knows exactly who committed the assault—it was Mueller—and she is not confused in the slightest about whether her long-term business acquaintance, Mr. Haskell, was the culprit.” The singer is also reported to have said Mueller intentionally reached under her skirt, and groped an intimate part of her body with his hand, against her will, and without her permission and in an inappropriate manner. Interesting court documents have revealed that it is unlikely that either party will resolve for settlement.
Swift is now seeking the court to award her $1 million plus holding the Mueller responsible so as to serve as an example for his likes. Furthermore, the singer will not be the only one testifying against Mueller, as her mother, Andrea Swift, her photographer who captured the incident, her bodyguard and a senior member of her management team will also be testifying. However, Mueller, as well as his former boss and some members of Swift’s entourage will also testify.
The singer has promised to donate any damages awarded to her from the suit to “charitable organizations dedicated to protecting women from similar acts of sexual assault and personal disregard.” It is reported that it might be difficult for fans who intend to attend the trial to get seats as only 32 seats will be available each day during the trial. The seats will be granted on a first-come, first-serve basis and will be available for the first 32 people in line starting at 7 a.m.
A new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis finds that a certain type of tolerance-promoting immune cell has been found in mice that have a particular bacterium in their guts. According to reports, the authors of the new study found a particular kind of immune cell in mice who have a certain type of bacterium in their guts.
However, it is reported by Science Daily that the bacterium in question needs one of the building blocks of proteins – to be specific the tryptophan – to trigger the appearance of the cells. Tryptophan is mostly found in turkey and other protein-rich foods including eggs, nuts, seeds, poultry, beans, yogurt, cheese, chocolate, and much more. It is already clear that the presence of immune cells in the gut helps to strike a balance between harmful microbes in the food substances consumed and cells that promote tolerance.
It ensures that the harmful microbes do not get absorbed into the body and cause inflammation, this is achieved by ensuring its balance with cells that promote tolerance and protect the body without damaging any sensitive tissue. But when the balance between the two becomes too great, tilting towards inflammation, it could lead to inflammatory bowel disease.
“We established a link between one bacterial species – Lactobacillus reuteri – that is a normal part of the gut microbiome and the development of a population of cells that promote tolerance. The more tryptophan the mice had in their diet, the more of these immune cells they had,” Professor of Pathology at the Robert Rock Belliveau and senior author of the study, Marco Colonna said.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the findings of the new study suggest that the combination of a diet rich in tryptophan and L. reuteri could bring about a less inflammation and a more tolerant gut environment. If the findings of the study are to be considered, it could mean a new treatment solution for over a million Americans who are currently suffering from abdominal pain and diarrhea as a result of inflammatory bowel disease, according to a report by Eurekalert.
The report also states that the difference between mice living with the bacterium in their guts and those that were not was first discovered by Luisa Cervantes-Barragan Ph.D., a postdoctoral researcher. She was researching on a kind of immune cell that boost tolerance when she noticed that a group of mice had such cells, but another group of mice that were housed apart from the first group did not possess similar cells.
Although both groups of mice were genetically identical, they were born and raised separately. The researchers believe that this is indicative of the fact that environmental factor plays an important role on whether immune cells will develop or not. It is reported that Cervantes-Barragan, in collaboration with other researchers was able to sequence DNA from the intestines of the two groups of mice. The researchers found six bacterial species in the mice that had the immune cells but not in those without it.
They further investigated into the system of mice that have been living in sterile conditions to check which of the six species were associated with the immune cells. The researchers found that the mice lack a gut microbiome and do not have the immune cells but it became present when L. reuteri was added to the germ-free mice.
In addition, they grew L. reuteri in liquid, part of which was then transferred to immature immune cells that are isolated from mice in order to understand how the bacteria influenced the immune system. Interestingly, the immune cells grew into the tolerance-promoting cells but when the liquid was purified of the active component, it became a byproduct of tryptophan – a metabolism called indole-3-lactic acid.
However, the number of the immune cells increased significantly by about 50 percent when the amount of tryptophan was doubled in the mice’s feed and when the quantity of tryptophan was reduced by half, the number of immune cells reduced by half. The researchers published the findings of their study August 3 in the journal Science.
